MILITARY SERVICE PAY (MSP) 2026
JCOs & ORs Revised Rates & Equal MSP Demand
As of January 2026, the demand for “Equal MSP” remains the central issue for over 1.4 million serving JCOs and Other Ranks. With the 8th Pay Commission formation, the disparity between Officer MSP (₹15,500) and JCO/OR MSP (₹5,200) is expected to be addressed as a priority agenda item.

MSP Revision Matrix (Current vs Expected)
| Rank Category | 7th CPC (Current) | 8th CPC (Proposed) |
|---|---|---|
| Officers | ₹ 15,500 | ₹ 15,500 + DA Merger |
| MNS Officers | ₹ 10,800 | ₹ 10,800 + DA Merger |
| JCOs / ORs | ₹ 5,200 | ₹ 10,500* (Min Demand) |
*JCO/OR Associations are legally fighting for Equal MSP of ₹15,500 in the Delhi High Court.
💡 Key Points to Note (Policy Insights):
- Legal Status: The “Equal MSP” case is currently sub-judice. If the court rules in favor of JCOs before the 8th CPC report, the arrears will be substantial.
- Risk Allowance vs MSP: Unlike Risk Allowance which varies by location, MSP is part of your Basic Pay for pension calculation. An increase in MSP directly increases your pension and commutation value.
- Rank Pay Merger: The 8th CPC is expected to simplify the pay matrix by merging MSP into the band pay itself to resolve these disparities permanently.
