The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced the opening of the automated affiliation portal, SARAS 7.0, for the upcoming academic session 2027-28. School administrators and trusts planning to start a new CBSE school or upgrade their existing affiliation must submit their applications strictly within the designated timeframe.

The SARAS 7.0 portal facilitates various categories of affiliation, including approval for Middle Class Syllabus, fresh affiliation up to Secondary and Senior Secondary level, switch-over from other State Boards, and regular extension or restoration of existing affiliations.

Important Mandates for Affiliation

The CBSE has issued a strict directive stating that fresh affiliation and upgradation cases will undergo a mandatory 100% physical inspection. Furthermore, all schools must ensure their OASIS data, mandatory public disclosures, and teachers’ details are accurately updated on the portal before applying.

New Rule: Maximum Sections Based on Built-up Area

In a major policy update, CBSE has also issued Notification No. 06/2026 (dated 25.02.2026), amending Appendix-V of Chapter 3 of the Affiliation Bye Laws, 2018. The maximum number of sections permitted in a school will no longer be arbitrary; it will now be strictly calculated on the basis of the Total Built-up Area of the school building.

Exemptions for Government Schools

While private and independent schools are bound by the 26th February to 31st July timeline, CBSE has granted a major exemption to state-run institutions. For all Government and Government-aided schools, the application window for all categories of affiliation will remain open round the year.

Schools are strongly advised to thoroughly review the SARAS 7.0 Manual and relevant affiliation circulars before initiating the payment and application process.

1. Visit the official automated affiliation portal: https://saras.cbse.gov.in/SARAS.
2. Ensure your school’s building architecture plan is certified by a Licensed Architect to calculate the correct number of sections.
3. Update all mandatory fields in the OASIS portal, including teacher details and public disclosures.
4. Submit the application before the deadline of 31st July 2026 to avoid late fees or rejection.
