2. Hostel Subsidy Rules 2026
The Hostel Subsidy is a massive benefit, but it comes with strict conditions.
- Distance Rule: The hostel must be located at least 50 KM away from the employee’s residence.
- Certificate: A certificate from the Head of Institution is mandatory. It must explicitly state that the child was a “Boarder” and paid for “Boarding and Lodging”.
- Fixed Amount: Unlike earlier rules requiring bills, the amount is now fixed at ₹8,437.50/month if the certificate confirms the stay.
3. Special Provisions for Divyang Children
For Differently Abled children, the government provides Double the Normal Rates. Additionally, there are relaxations in attendance:
- Home Education: If a Divyang child cannot attend school due to disability, reimbursement is allowed for Special Education at Residence.
- Requirement: A payment receipt from the Special Educator/Tutor and a Self-Certification by the employee are sufficient.
- Age Limit: The upper age limit for Divyang children is raised to 22 years (compared to 20 years for normal children).
4. Documents & Certificate Formats
To ensure your claim is not rejected by the DDO, use the correct format.
A. For CEA (Tuition Fee)
Preferred: School Certificate (Signed by Principal).
Alternative: Self-Declaration + Report Card/Fee Receipt.
B. For Hostel Subsidy (Mandatory Format)

Can I claim Hostel Subsidy if the child stays with relatives?
No. Hostel Subsidy is admissible only if the child stays in a residential educational institution (Boarding School). Staying as a paying guest or with relatives does not qualify.
Is CEA available for the 3rd child if one is Divyang?
No. The two-child limit applies strictly, regardless of disability status. The 3rd child is eligible only in cases of multiple births (twins/triplets) after the first child.
