Dies Non Rules 2026: Impact on Pension, Increment & Service Break

Service Warning: Do not ignore “Unauthorized Absence.” If your department marks it as “Dies Non”, that period is permanently deleted from your service life, delaying your increment and reducing your pension.

Among all administrative orders, “Dies Non” (Latin for “No Day”) is one of the most misunderstood. It is often imposed when an employee is absent without permission or participates in a strike. Unlike standard “Leave Without Pay,” Dies Non has long-term financial consequences.

When is “Dies Non” Imposed?

The Competent Authority can treat a period as Dies Non in three main cases:

  1. Unauthorized Absence: Absence without prior sanction of leave.
  2. Overstayal: Staying on leave beyond the sanctioned period without approval.
  3. Strike: Leaving office during working hours or refusal to work (Pen Down strike).

The 3-Point Damage Checklist

If you are slapped with a Dies Non order for 10 days, here is what you lose:

Benefit Impact of Dies Non
Salary No Pay for those days. (Reason: No Work, No Pay).
Increment Postponed. Your annual increment date shifts forward by the number of days of Dies Non.
Pension Service Deducted. These days are NOT counted as “Qualifying Service.” (Can lower your Gratuity & Pension).
Earned Leave Reduced. No EL is credited for this period. (Normally you earn 2.5 days EL per month).

Dies Non vs. Break in Service

This is the only “Good News” about Dies Non.

  • Break in Service: You lose your entire past service. You start as a fresh recruit.
  • Dies Non: You keep your past service. Only the days of absence are deleted. It maintains continuity.

1. वेतन नहीं: Dies Non का मतलब है “काम नहीं, वेतन नहीं”। उन दिनों की सैलरी नहीं मिलेगी।

2. इंक्रीमेंट पर असर: अगर आप 10 दिन बिना बताए गायब रहे, तो आपका सालाना इंक्रीमेंट 10 दिन आगे खिसक जाएगा।

3. पेंशन का नुकसान: रिटायरमेंट के समय ये दिन आपकी नौकरी (Qualifying Service) में नहीं गिने जाएंगे, जिससे पेंशन कम हो सकती है।

4. छुट्टी का नुकसान: इन दिनों के बदले आपको कोई Earned Leave (EL) भी नहीं मिलेगी।
