One of the biggest worries for Central Government employees during Retirement or Transfer is vacating their official accommodation. The Directorate of Estates (DoE) allows retention for a specific period, but you must apply for it in advance.

Permissible Retention Periods (2026)

The retention rules vary based on the reason for leaving the post. Check the table below:

Legal Action: Eviction proceedings under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act.

How to Apply for Retention?

Retention is NOT automatic. You must submit a request to the Directorate of Estates or your department’s estate officer before your retirement or transfer date.

Fill the Retention Form (online on e-Sampada or offline).
Attach supporting documents (Transfer Order / Pension Paper / Medical Certificate for extension).
