No More Waiting: India Post Launches ‘Guaranteed 24-Hour Speed Post’ and 24×7 Smart Booking Kiosks
New Delhi | January 3, 2026
NEW DELHI: In a historic overhaul of India’s logistics backbone, the Department of Posts (India Post) has officially kicked off its “Mission 2026” with two game-changing services: Guaranteed 24-Hour Speed Post Delivery and 24×7 Smart Post Kiosks.
Announced by Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, this initiative aims to transform India Post from a traditional mail carrier into a profit-making logistics giant by 2029. For the common citizen, this means the government post office is now faster, smarter, and open 24 hours a day.
🚀 The 24-Hour Promise
Starting January 2026, the new service tiers are active:
- 24-Hour Speed Post: Guaranteed next-day delivery for Metro-to-Metro and intra-city parcels.
- 48-Hour Speed Post: Guaranteed two-day delivery for State Capitals and major Tier-2 cities.
- Compensation: Unlike before, if the “Guaranteed” service fails, customers are eligible for a refund of the booking amount.
Book Anytime: The “Smart Post Kiosk”
The biggest complaint about government post offices has always been their “10 AM to 5 PM” timing. To counter this, India Post has deployed Smart Post Kiosks in major cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai.

These unmanned kiosks work like ATMs. You can walk in at 2:00 AM, weigh your parcel on the digital scale, scan the receiver’s address, pay via UPI/QR code, and drop the packet in the secure box. The system generates a digital receipt instantly, ensuring your “Urgent” Speed Post is booked even when the world sleeps.
| Feature | Old Speed Post | New 24-Hour Service (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery Time | 3 to 5 Days (Estimated) | Guaranteed 24 Hours |
| Booking Time | 10 AM – 3 PM (Counter) | 24×7 (Via Smart Kiosk) |
| Tracking | SMS Updates | Live GPS Tracking |
Dak Niryat Kendras: Boosting Small Business
Alongside the 24-hour delivery, India Post has expanded its Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras (DNKs). These are specialized counters for MSMEs and small exporters. If you sell products online, you can now book international shipments digitally from your home and simply drop them off at the DNK, bypassing the long queues entirely.
