New Job Profile 2026
LSG is Now “Supervisory”
No More Counter Duties? (New Powers)
LSG is Now Truly “Supervisory”: New Powers, Responsibilities, and APM Roles Defined in 2026 Report
- Designation: Deputy Postmaster / APM
- Power: Administrative & Financial
- Role: Non-Functional (Supervisory)
- Status: Reporting Officer for APAR
The End of “Senior PA” Culture
Historically, LSG (Lower Selection Grade) was a joke. LSG officials were made to sit on counters and do the same work as a new recruit PA.
The 2026 Report changes everything. The Committee has strictly defined that LSG is a SUPERVISORY post, not an operative one.
1. The New Job Description (JD)
According to the “Functional Justification” chapter of the report, an LSG official will now hold these specific posts:
Postmaster (Grade I)
Independent Charge of Single/Double Handed Offices. You are the “Head of Office” with full control over staff.
Deputy Postmaster / APM
In large Head Post Offices (HO), LSG will be the APM (Mails / Accounts / Savings). You will supervise PAs, not do data entry.
2. Financial Powers (The Real Authority)
With the upgrade, LSG officials will get enhanced financial powers:
- Sanctioning Leave: Casual Leave (CL) and Earned Leave (EL) for subordinate staff.
- Passing Bills: Authority to pass contingent bills and medical claims up to a certain limit.
- APAR Reporting: The power to write the “Annual Performance Report” of PAs and MTS. This restores discipline and respect.
3. Why This Matters for Your Career?
🎓 Preparation for Group B
By handling independent charges as LSG, you gain the administrative experience required for the PS Group ‘B’ Exam. A counter PA cannot crack the interview/practical aspect of Group B, but an LSG Postmaster can.
