LTC Block Year 2026-2029: New Rules, Grace Period & Carry Forward Guide

New Block Alert: The LTC Calendar has reset! We have entered the 2026-2029 Block. Plan your travel carefully to maximize your “Anywhere in India” entitlement.
For Central Government employees, Leave Travel Concession (LTC) is the most valuable perk after salary. With the start of 2026, the Block Year accounts have refreshed. Whether you are a senior employee or a fresh recruit, knowing your current “Block Status” is critical to avoid claim rejection.

The 4-Year Block Structure (2026-2029)
This block applies to employees who have completed 8 years of service. It is split into two halves:
| Sub-Block | Entitlement | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 – 2027 | Home Town OR Anywhere in India* | You can convert Home Town to ‘Anywhere in India’ (AILTC) once in a 4-year block. |
| 2028 – 2029 | Home Town | Standard entitlement. |
*Note: In a 4-Year Block, you get Two Journeys. Usually, one is Home Town and one is Anywhere in India (by conversion).
The Grace Period Rule (Carry Forward)
Did you miss your LTC in the previous block (2024-25)?
Good News: You can carry it forward to 2026.
- Condition: The journey must effectively commence on or before 31st December 2026.
- Example: If you have a pending “Home Town” LTC from 2025, you can use it in 2026. This will NOT consume your regular 2026 entitlement. You can enjoy TWO trips this year (One Carry Forward + One Current).

The Rejection Shield: Top 3 Mistakes in 2026
80% of LTC claims are rejected for these three specific reasons. Ensure you do not fall into these traps:
тЭМ 1. The “MakeMyTrip” Trap
Never book tickets via private apps (MakeMyTrip, Yatra, Paytm, Skyscanner). Even if it is cheaper, the claim will be REJECTED.
тЬЕ Correct Way: Only book via Balmer Lawrie, IRCTC, or Ashoka Travels.
тЭМ 2. The “Flexi-Fare” Error
While booking Air India, ensure you do not select “Flexi Saver” or “Business” unless entitled. You must pick the ticket with the lowest fare in your entitled class on the day of booking.
тЭМ 3. The “10-Day” Advance Penalty
If you take an LTC Advance, you MUST submit the final bill within 1 Month of the journey. If you cancel the trip, you must refund the advance within 10 Days.
тЪая╕П Penalty: Failing this attracts Penal Interest (GPF Rate + 2%).
Fresh Recruits (New Joiners)
If you have joined service recently (less than 8 years ago), the 2026-29 block does NOT apply to you directly. You follow the 8-Year Cycle:
- Year 1-3: Home Town Only.
- Year 4: Anywhere in India.
- Year 5-7: Home Town Only.
- Year 8: Anywhere in India.
Only after completing 8 years do you shift to the General Block (2026-29).
