New Delhi: The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) has invited proposals from Schools, Colleges, Universities, and NGOs to celebrate Earth Day 2026 under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet”. The Ministry seeks to support events that promote renewable energy, environmental cleanliness, and resource conservation.

Institutions located in aspirational blocks and border areas, as well as those involving girl students and differently-abled participants, are highly encouraged to apply. The initiative aims to create mass awareness through practical activities like cleanliness drives and rallies. Applications must be submitted via email to the designated outreach address within the stipulated timeline.

1. Key Dates & Application Timeline

Organizers must adhere to the submission deadlines to be considered for financial support. Remote areas include Kashmir, Ladakh, North-East States, Andaman & Nicobar, and Lakshadweep.

Milestone Deadline / Date
Application Window 03 Feb 2026 – 22 Feb 2026
Remote Area Deadline 28 February 2026
Event Celebration 22 April 2026
Report Submission Within 1 Month of Event

2. Mandatory Activities & Grant Utilization

To qualify for the grant, institutions must conduct specific mandatory activities. The financial support covers prizes, refreshments, and publicity material.

Mandatory Activities
1. Cleanliness Drive: Removal of Single-Use Plastics from premises.
2. Awareness Rally: Human chain with slogans like “Clean Energy, Bright Future”.
3. Pledge: Administering the Earth Day Pledge in Hindi or Regional Language.

Grant Allocation (Indicative)
1. Prizes: Up to ₹10,000 (1st: ₹3000, 2nd: ₹2000×2, 3rd: ₹1000×3).
2. Logistics: Mementos, cloth bags, refreshments, and stationery.
3. Models: Support for working models of Solar/Wind power.

3. Administrative Analysis: Grant Compliance

The Ministry has streamlined the funding process to ensure accountability. A crucial aspect of this program is the timely submission of the Utilization Certificate (UC) and Statement of Expenditure (SoE). Organizations that submit these documents promptly along with the event report (including photos and videos) not only ensure the smooth settlement of the current grant but also establish a credible track record. This positive compliance history is vital for securing future funding for academic and scientific events from the Ministry.

4. Practical Implementation Strategy

For schools and NGOs, the “Cleanliness Drive” requires systematic execution; the guidelines mandate that collected plastic waste must be weighed and officially handed over to the local Municipal Corporation. Organizers should arrange this coordination in advance. Additionally, documenting the event is critical—assigning a specific team to capture high-quality photographs and a 2-3 minute video clip will ensure you have the necessary evidence for the post-event report, making the reimbursement process seamless.

5. Earth Day 2026 Pledge

“I pledge on Earth Day-2026 that I will use energy responsibly, conserve water and other natural resources, and promote clean, green, and renewable energy. I will adopt sustainable practices in my daily life…”.

Who is eligible to apply for MoES support?

Schools, Colleges, Universities, Institutes, and registered NGOs/Societies are eligible. Priority is given to organizations involved in Earth System Science activities.

What is the procedure for NGOs?
