The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has released the full list of President’s Medals 2026 for personnel belonging to Police, Fire Service, Home Guards, Civil Defence, and Correctional Services (Prisons). A total of 982 medals have been approved by the President on the occasion of Republic Day.

Separately, the President has also approved the Jeevan Raksha Padak for 30 civilians who saved lives.
Notable Winner: Shri Pintu Kumar Sahni (Bihar) – Awarded the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak (Posthumous) for sacrificing his life to save others.

Do these medals carry a cash reward?
Gallantry Medals carry a monthly monetary allowance (e.g., โน2000-โน3000 pm) depending on the rank and state policies. Distinguished/Meritorious Service Medals usually do not carry a central monthly allowance but may have state-specific one-time cash rewards or travel concessions.
How is “Distinguished” different from “Meritorious”?
PSM (Distinguished): Awarded for a “special distinguished record” in service (usually towards the end of a career).
MSM (Meritorious): Awarded for “valuable service characterized by resource and devotion to duty” (usually after 15-18 years of service).
