A Tribute to the Motherland (1876-2026)
The 77th Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path will be a historic blend of cultural legacy and military might. The central theme for 2026 is “150 Years of Vande Mataram”, commemorating the sesquicentennial anniversary of the national song composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. The entire parade route will feature rare paintings from 1923 by artist Tejendra Kumar Mitra, illustrating the verses of the song.
✅ Key Parade Highlights
1. The Guests of Honor: For the first time, two European Union leaders—Ursula von der Leyen (President, European Commission) and António Costa (President, European Council)—will attend together as Chief Guests.
2. Military Firsts: The Indian Army will debut the “Phased Battle Array” formation, moving away from traditional marching. Watch out for the newly raised “Bhairav” Light Commando Battalion, marching for the first time.
3. Cultural Spectacle: A special musical tribute composed by MM Keeravani will be performed by 2,500 artists.
Tableaux & Participation
A total of 30 Tableaux (17 from States/UTs and 13 from Ministries) will roll down Kartavya Path. The themes are divided into:
- Swatantrata ka Mantra: Focused on the freedom struggle and Vande Mataram.
- Samriddhi ka Mantra: Focused on Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).
Jan Bhagidari: The People’s Celebration
In a move to democratize the event, the government has invited nearly 10,000 Special Guests. These include:
