The Commuter’s Challenge
While the DoPT has already issued orders for the Early Closure of Government Offices on January 23rd (Full Dress Rehearsal) and January 25th/26th, the real challenge for employees is the commute home. With Delhi Police citing specific security inputs and imposing strict diversions, getting out of the Central Vista area requires planning.
✅ Metro Station Restrictions (DMRC Update)
Date: Jan 23 (Rehearsal) & Jan 26 (Parade)
Central Secretariat: Entry/Exit closed till 12:00 PM (Interchange allowed).
Udyog Bhawan: Completely closed till 12:00 PM.
Patel Chowk / Lok Kalyan Marg: Restricted entry in morning hours.
Traffic Advisory: Roads to Avoid
The Delhi Traffic Police has restricted vehicular movement around the parade route. If your office closes early at 1:00 PM or 2:00 PM, avoid these routes to prevent getting stuck:
- Vijay Chowk to India Gate: Completely blocked.
- Rafi Marg & Janpath: Crossing not allowed during rehearsal timings.
- C-Hexagon (India Gate): Avoid from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
- Alternative Route: Use Ring Road via Ashram or Ridge Road via Sardar Patel Marg.
Security Alert: Why the Strict Checks?
Intelligence agencies have flagged a specific “26-26” cryptic code threat this year, leading to enhanced frisking at all government building entry points. Employees leaving early as per the Official Office Closure List must carry their Identity Cards (ID) visibly to avoid hassle at checkpoints.

- Metro Interchange: You can switch lines at Central Secretariat (Yellow/Violet) even if gates are closed.
- Offices: Only those listed in the Annexure List close early.

- Parking: No parking allowed in North/South Block vicinity.

How to Plan Your Exit

1. Check if your building is on the Closure List first.
2. If leaving at 1:00 PM on Jan 23, avoid Udyog Bhawan Metro. Walk to Patel Chowk or take a shuttle to Shivaji Stadium.
3. Carry valid Office ID. Security will deny entry to Lutyens’ Zone without it.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Metro closed for the whole day?
No. Metro services are normal, but specific stations near Kartavya Path (Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan) have gate closures until the parade/rehearsal ends (approx 12:00 PM).
Which offices are closing early?
Not all offices close early. Only offices located in buildings along the Parade Route (North/South Block, Vayu Bhawan, etc.) are included. You can verify your building in the Official Closure List here.
