Transport Allowance (TPTA) is granted to cover the cost of commuting between residence and office. Naturally, if you do not attend office for a significant period, the government stops this payment. Understanding the “Calendar Month” rule is crucial to avoid salary recovery.
The “Full Calendar Month” Rule Explained
A “Full Calendar Month” means from the 1st of the month to the last day (30th/31st).
Scenario A: Leave from Jan 1 to Jan 31.
Result: TPTA = ZERO.
Scenario B: Leave from Jan 2 to Feb 2.
Result: Full TPTA paid for Jan (attended on Jan 1) and Full TPTA paid for Feb (attended from Feb 3).
Strategy: If planning long leave (EL/CCL), try to join duty for at least one day in the month to claim the full allowance.
When TPTA is Not Admissible
Check the conditions where allowance is stopped:

TPTA for Disabled Employees
Employees with benchmark disabilities (Blind/Deaf/Locomotor) receive TPTA at double rates (min ₹2250 x 2 + DA).
Rule: The same stoppage rules apply. If a disabled employee is on leave for a full month, the double allowance is also recovered.
Common Rejection Cases
- Child Care Leave: Mothers often forget that 2 years of CCL means ~24 months of lost TPTA.
- Study Leave: TPTA is not admissible during Study Leave.
- Joining Time: TPTA is not admissible during joining time if it covers a full calendar month (rare case).
