As of March 23, 2026, the Ministry of Communications, Department of Posts (FS Division), has issued formal instructions regarding the execution of End of Year (EoY) activities for 2025-26 in CBS offices. To facilitate smooth financial closing, all counter transactions for savings schemes will be temporarily halted at the beginning of the new financial year.
POSB Operations Suspended on April 1 and 2, 2026
In view of End of Year Operations, 01.04.2026 and 02.04.2026 are declared as no-transaction days. There will be no Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) transactions across counters on these dates. A public notice must be displayed on the notice board of all CBS Post Offices confirming the same.
- Digital Channels: DOP E-Banking and M-Banking will not be available.
- IPPB Services: IPPB-POSB Sweep-In and Sweep-Out facilities will remain suspended.
- Exceptions: Chennai GPO shall ensure that DBT operations are performed successfully on all days.
- Cheque Deposits: Acceptance of cheques across counters will continue and must not be refused.
End of Year (EoY) Timeline and Operational Hours
With consecutive holidays falling around the financial year-end, the Department has mapped out a strict timeline for transaction completion. Postmasters and DDOs must adhere to these deadlines to ensure system stability during the CEPT batch executions.
| Date | Event / Status | Action Required |
|---|---|---|
| 30.03.2026 | Last day for full operations | Complete all transactions up to 1700 hours. Complete HISCOD by 1800 hours. |
| 31.03.2026 | Mahavir Jayanti | Closed Holiday. HISCOD/HSCOD executed centrally by IPPB DOP team. |
| 01.04.2026 | No-Transaction Day | Clearing holiday. No outward cheques scanned. |
| 02.04.2026 | No-Transaction Day | Outward cheque scanning resumes. Salary/Pension HRMS uploads processed. |
| 03.04.2026 | Good Friday | Closed Holiday. |
| 04.04.2026 | Operations Resume | Counters reopen. SB counters may operate full day. |
Interest Calculation and Unverified Accounts Warning
A critical risk during EoY operations involves unverified accounts blocking annual interest credit. Post Offices should ensure that no account or modification in accounts of SB/PPF/SSA/NSS-87/NSS-92 remains unverified. Interest posting will not happen for any account with pending verification as on 31.03.2026. Staff should be alerted to avoid such financial lapses for customers.
Services Working on April 1-2
Acceptance of inward cheques at the counter.
DBT operations explicitly at Chennai GPO.

Cheque Clearing and CCTS Deadlines
Since April 1 is a Wednesday and a clearing holiday, the CTS application will not be available on this day due to systemic validation checks between the system date and the application date. Therefore, all outward cheques can only be scanned from Thursday, 02.04.2026.
- Step 1: Accept all cheques from customers on or before 31.03.2026.
- Step 2: Scan, clear, and post these cheques in accounts under the Continuous Cheque Truncation System (CCTS) by 31.03.2026.
- Step 3: Open new accounts for which cheques have been cleared on or before 31.03.2026.
- Step 4: Process all accepted cheques expeditiously, as the 5th of the month is a crucial date for PPF and SSA interest calculation.
- Step 5: Nodal clearing offices like Chennai GPO must ensure processing of all cheques during special RBI/NPCI clearing sessions late on 31.03.2026.
